PINA: A Wim Wenders film

As an ex-dancer I can really appreciate the movement within the film. The costume really compliments the graceful fluidity of the movement as it effortlessly glides between each leg as she controls her fall into her partners hands. The way in which the dance routine is filmed is on interest to me as it appears really thought through. As the dancer edges to a more upright position she the camera zooms out more and as she fall theres a tendency for the camera to zoom in more. I will do some tests and experiments with zoom as i think it can be very complimentary to the movements and garments.

Research into Retail bags

Material Matters

All types of carrier bag, whether made from plastic, paper or jute, will have some impact on the environment during the manufacturing process, transportation and ultimate disposal. The best way to reduce their carbon footprint is to simply re-use them as many times as possible and then recycle them at the end of their useful life.Statistics on Effect of charging for carrier bags on bin-bag sales in Wales

Paper bags

While paper carrier bags are from a renewable source and are biodegradable, compostable and recyclable, they require significantly more energy to manufacture and transport than plastic bags and normally have limited reusability. If disposed of in landfill, they are likely to degrade and release methane.

Natural materials

Jute and cotton are made from plants which need a lot of water and fertiliser to grow and energy to harvest and process into bags. They encourage re-use, and can be reprocessed at the end of their useful life as, for example, blankets used by removal companies. If disposed of in landfill, they are likely to degrade and release methane.

  •  It found an increase in sales of pedal-bin liners and swing-bin liners at the exact time the charge was introduced
  • It seems that, because of  the reduction in material use associated with the lower use of thin-gauge carrier bags, there has been an increase in sales of Bags for Life between 2010 and 2012 offset 28% of this.
  • Data published by WRAP shows that 8.5 billion thin-gauge (single-use) bags were used in 2014 by customers of UK supermarkets .
  • This represents an increase of 2.3 % compared with 2013 (8.3 billion), and a decrease of 30% compared with 2006 (12.2 billion), when reporting began.

Warner Corset Advertisement 1910

i am quite fond of this film commercial as it uses humour child innocence to intrigue and persuade the audience to be interested in the product. Nowadays corsets are less common so there aren't any adverts from todays era that i can compare it to but it is interesting to see that adverts can be just as effective if they are in black and white and if silence or an instrumental alone is played in the background. The tough stocking commercial on the other hand is displayed in colour. I guess this makes the subjects within the film clearer to see. The choice of colour however probably wouldn't have been a choice of the designer, but instead a development in technology. This is crazy because there is a 50 year difference between the production of both these films and nowadays all we eve see are films in colour unless the filmmaker has chosen otherwise for effect.
